Numerical Modelling of Timber Beams with GFRP Pultruded Reinforcement

Timber structural members have been widely adopted and used in construction due to their inherent characteristics. The main objective of this work is assess the performance timber beams with GFRP pultruded beam reinforcement subjected flexure. A finite element model (FEM) using ABAQUS FEM software developed, aiming provide a benchmark modelling procedure. method considers fundamental role connections among beams, reinforcing profile (adhesive screw connections), grain direction timber. To understand influence direction, different angles deviations between longitudinal (along grain) axis are considered. robustness developed procedure validated by experimental results without under It demonstrated that angle deviation (grain deviation) produces high reductions strength unreinforced beams. However, effect minimal for GFRP-reinforced experimentally derived can be as computational tool capture capacity, failure mode, load–displacement response.
